Description

Here is a wonderful way to introduce the concept of patterning, spatial relations and problem solving to young children as they are introduced to characters in the Old and New Testament.  While working individually or in small groups on one of the 24 patterning pages using plastic or wood pattern blocks, each child is  encouraged to color the page with crayons, and then fill the outlined blocks with as many combinations of pattern blocks as possible.  This activity helps young people look for more than one way to solve a problem.
Example: One hexagon may be filled with three diamonds, six triangles, or two rhombi pattern blocks.
For a more challenging activity, the teacher may white-out the interior lines of the pattern block to create a more difficult patterning challenge.
